Trucks Gone Wild

Trucks Gone Wild

Not all performance truck owners will like this, but just in case you’re interested, trucks gone wild offers the chance to see the wilder, dirtier side of owning big, jacked up trucks and what they can do out in the boonies.

The formula for trucks gone wild is pretty simple: dig a hole or find a low spot, add a bunch of water (just after a big rain works just fine) mix it well and add tall trucks so jacked up you feel like you need a step ladder to get to the cab and you got the formula for a loud, dirty day of fun in the country.

Instead of a paved drag strip, this can simply be a 50 yards of thick, deep mud that in some cases is impossible to plow through. Many times, it’s not about making it out the far side, it’s just how far down the trench the truck will go.

How Do You Determine A Winner?

On those days when no one actually makes it through the muck and gets to the far side without getting towed or winched out, each time another truck does not make it, out comes the measuring tape and the trucks gone wild winner is determined by the dude who goes the farthest before getting bogged down and coming to a complete stop.

5 Critical Items for Trucks Gone Wild

Tires
Transmission
Engine
Suspension
Electircal

Large Honking Mud Grip Tires

One of the main ways to make it through the soup described above is tires that  are big, fat and with lugs so deep you could get lost in them.

A Gorilla-Like Transmission

In addition to big, bad-ass tires, trucks gone wild will never make it through the mud hole without a transmission that can handle all the low torque needed to pull through the muck and mess. Plus you’ll need a helluva low gear in that tranny.

Rebuilt Engine

Another critical thing needed is an engine that will stand the strain of running full out while actually making very little progress through that mess. Most people do this themselves, of course, but there are shops that can handle some things, like boring the crankcase, if needed.

Suspension Taller Than A House

Finally, trucks gone wild would never be possible without some elevation. You gotta have some clearance, just to get the rig over the mud — much less to get through it.

Electrical Components

Last but not least for a kick-ass trucks gone wild is a stronger than normal battery and alternator. You’re going to need a ton of charge to make sure things are warmed up, revved up and ready to go. You won’t go anywhere without a reliable battery and a way to make sure things are always charged and ready to go.

As I said, if you’re into this, now’s the time. Get going and head for the hills, take to the woods and get outside: no matter how you say it, being outside is good for the soul. And taking in a trucks gone wild mud ride will at least be entertaining, if not down right fun!
